I ran the Firecracker 5k this 4th, in Reston Virginia, and thought some of the race metrics would look nice in a Tableau visualization. The raw data can be found here:

To reduce the number of potential horizontal bars I removed seconds from each runners pace. It does not seem fair that a 9:00 pace and a 9:59 pace are grouped together, but there were over 7,000 runners which would be unreasonable to graph!

Clearly the 9.x minute miles have the most runners. It is also interesting to see that the overall times and the number of runners fit into a traditional bell curve. More on that in a future post.

Now lets add age groups in each minute grouping.  The age group with the highest number of runners is shown with a numeric value. Hover over each group to get more details.
